FYI and Tecumseh have had a special working relationship for many years through our Mentoring Program, with countless students benefiting from the partnership. So it is fitting for us to do something special for the graduates as they have endured this difficult year.
On June 1-5, FYI is celebrating with and honoring the approximately 250 graduating seniors at Tecumseh High School as part of our first FYI Senior Celebration. As seniors do their school-scheduled walk and receive their diploma, FYI will be there to give them a bag of assorted gifts and goodies from us and other community businesses and organizations.
“We know a lot of the kids fairly well and we wanted to do our part to make the graduation more special,” said Co-Executive Director Pat Banaszak. “It has been a tough year for them, and for everybody.”
Among the gifts they will receive are: A Lee’s Famous Recipe Chicken buy one, get one free coupon, a Clark State Community College stress ball and ink pen, a “What Are You Aiming For?” cell phone back organizer, candy, cookies from Cake Creations and Stagecoach Restaurant, and a thank you letter to parents. Also, every student will get one entry into a special raffle for an assortment of great prizes donated by local businesses.
FYI’s Real Life … Teen Choices program is spearheading the effort.
“We’ve grown up with those kids; all of our children go there and we know a lot of the kids personally,” said Real Life Educator Jennifer Kennedy. “We wanted them to know that we care for them and love them and we’re trying to send them off with some amazing goodies.”
